Ciprofloxacin for Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis: In
a 28-day DB PC study of 377 men with chronic bacterial prostatitis, 500 mg
levofloxacin daily vs 500 mg ciprofloxacin twice daily resulted in lower PSA
tests in many patients. The short-term cure rate for equal: levofloxacin
91% vs. ciprofloxacin 93%. Treatment of chronic bacterial prostatitis with
levofloxacin and ciprofloxacin lowers serum prostate specific antigen. Schaeffer
AJ, et al. Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago. J Urol 2005
Jul;174(1):161-4. The wholesale cost of this dose of ciprofloxacin would
be $11. Cipro didn't help men with chronic prostatitis associated with
chronic pelvic pain. Ann Int Med Oct 19;141(8):581-9. |
